My Story

In 1991 my daughter Jessica was born. The labor was induced with petocin. I was given anesthetics and an epidural for the delivery, and ultimately had to have an emergency C section. Afterwards, I was shaking severely. The surgeon’s assistant asked what was wrong with me. I was taken aback by her question, which really stuck in my mind.

Five months later, we moved to a beautiful, brand new home. This was a dream come true for us. The carpeting was delayed, so we agreed that they would install it the week after we moved in. Well, once the carpeting was installed, I got sick. I had severe headaches, digestive problems and virtually no energy. These symptoms made it very difficult to get through the day, let alone take care of my new baby. Two weeks later we had to move out!

Ever since then, I’ve had a condition referred to as chemical sensitivity. I got through the first few months by moving from home to home and hotel to hotel until I found out what was causing these issues. I didn’t know if I was allergic to something or if something else was happening to me. I went to doctor after doctor and no one was able to help.

Luckily, I found a physician that helped me with a number of natural, alternative therapies, which gave me my health back. This set in motion a series of events. I began to learn what toxic chemicals can do to our health. I have researched more health friendly paints, flooring, cabinetry, glue, furniture, cleaning products, cosmetics, body care products, and even clothing. I have come to understand how all these chemicals impact our health, how sick one can get by living in a world surrounded by these toxins, and I do everything possible to live naturally.

My daughter is now 18 and I have a 16 year old son. Although it is impossible to eliminate 100% of the toxins and still lead a normal life, we have been living in healthy homes and I have minimized their exposure to as many of these materials as possible.

Because of the Green Movement, it is now much easier to create an environmentally friendly home for my family and buy healthy personal products.
